In partnership with Chin Track Days and Road Atlanta, Bryant Group Motorsports Academy (BGMA) hosted its first track day and official launch party at Road Atlanta on March 25th, in advance of the 2018 HOPE Global Forums.
Over 40 VIP guests and supporters came out to battle an unusually cold Atlanta morning that quickly became one of the hottest track and ride-along sessions in BGMA history!
This action-packed Sunday saw a wide array of automotive and motorsport professionals, c-suite executives, leaders of local education, and students/volunteers from BGMA's in-school STEM program "High Velocity Education."
Alongside founder John Hope Bryant, in his privately owned GT350R, BGMA was thrilled to welcome the legendary Doc Bundy as a guest driver in the number 65 car. For many, this was their first ride-along experience on a real racetrack and to have racing legend Doc Bundy in the driver's seat certainly created an unforgettable memory.
Bundy's career spans 4 decades where he first began as a wheel polisher and technician for famous porsche driver Peter Gregg in the 1970's. He would go on to become an industry legend that drove for Ford, Jaguar, Chevrolet, and Porsche. In 1980, he took his first National Championship as a rookie in the Porsche 924 and followed that by winning GTO at 24 Hours of LeMans in the 924 Turbo.
Another huge event highlight was a personal best for John Hope Bryant. Towards the end of the day, in one of the last sessions, Bryant took the young Kayelea Doff out for her ride-along. What was expected to be a normal run became Bryant's FASTEST LAP EVER in his Shelby at Road Atlanta (1:37.93) dropping almost 4 seconds from the beginning of the session. A thrilling experience for Bryant, BGMA, and Kayelea!
Experiences like this are what BGMA is all about. Offering young people the chance to see these careers and opportunities up close and in person.
Many of the students who attended went around the paddock and made an effort to talk with the other drivers and crew members who were more than happy to share advice, stories, and words of encouragement.
To most young people, a career in racing or automotive seems unrealistic or totally unattainable and that couldn't be further from the truth. Sometimes all it takes is one person to tell you that "yes, you CAN do this."
Inspiring, building confidence, and creating opportunities. That's what BGMA is all about.
